Well tonight was a late night and for probably the first time in my life, i actually ate pancakes on pancake tuesday! And they were goooood. I think I usually remember it’s pancake tuesday but then I don’t feel like eating them. I mean, who eats pancakes for dinner. Tonight, however, it was us!
I made pancakes with oatmeal honey and bananas and it went like this:
Melt 2 tbsp butter in fry pan. While it’s melting put
1 cup of buttermilk
1/2 cup of oatmeal regular cut, in a bowl.
Add 1 1/2 cup of flour
2 tsp baking powder
splash of honey
Pour melted butter in bowl. Mix together and make sure batter is on the thin side.
Voila your pan is greased and you are ready to cook em up. Drop batter onto pan and slice some bananas on top.
Fry on medium heat and put finished pancakes in oven set at 200.
We also tried a new and great technique for butter control. I about lose my mind as I watch the knives digging into the butter dish again and again when we eat pancakes. Yet I wasn’t feel so ogre-ly as to deny butter on shrove tuesday–day of excess. So a compromise. I measured out each person a pat of butter and they were told they could use it as they wished. Interesting test. Only little doode ate his entire portion!
What is shrove tuesday? It’s not even on the calendars anymore. Wikipedia and the BBC informs me that it’s an anglican type of deal, and more common in those related countries, like Canada! A last big hurrah before lent, for some, and for us, just some fun on a late night!
Naturally this dinner also tapped into our maple syrup deal–but i’ll save that for another post.
