Hey check it out. Sometimes you win one. Sort of.
Back in February Mead Johnson released chocolate flavored toddler formula, crikey! After getting a lot of heat on the issue, and people are crediting some key food bloggers for their role in getting the word out–they’ve discontinued it.
I love the title of this article: “Mead johnson cries uncle on chocolate todder formula revealing that there are some actual limits to nutritionally reckless marketing” Tee hee. But alas, as Marion Nestle points out–they’re still selling the vanilla version, and THAT has nearly as much sugar as the chocolate version. Sigh. Somehow the vanilla is more innocuous? Maybe they think moms won’t be embarassed to be seen feeding that–since it looks like regular milk color? Dunno. Anyways kind of neat to see that consumer outrage can make change!
I first noticed the story back in April (not long ago, really!) and mentioned it here.
