Well, so far so good. It’s been cold and crappy this week, but the bees have been out doing little circles around their new homes. They’ve eaten a lot of sugar syrup–in fact, after 5 days –today –we’ll need to do another feeding! Last night we looked in the hives to check on the queens. We noticed that they’re starting to make comb in there, and when we pulled the queen cages out –lo and behold–the system works! Both queens are out and about. We didn’t go the extra step to see where she was on the frames, but will just assume that she’s somewhere in there busy doing her work.
It’s kind of interesting to be out there when the bees are out–they’re loud and there’s a lot of them kind of swarming around their hive. It doesn’t freak me out at all, I like to sit in front of the hive for a good look at their activities.
This morning I picked up a special delivery from the pharmacy–an epi pen! Just seems like a good idea to have one around just in case we need it. I don’t think I’m allergic, the doode isn’t sure, but probably not, but for visitors–it’s seems like peace of mind!
UPDATE: This afternoon while in the garden I noticed the first bee out and about collecting pollen!! There’s a big kale plant I let go to seed, and it’s tall with pretty yellow flowers. The little bee had pollen pouches on its legs. COOL!
